retainers

Retention receives great attention in Dr. Ferrer's practice. We recommend permanent retainers when indicated to ensure you will have a beautiful smile that lasts a lifetime. They are an extra effort for us to deliver; however our philosophy of patient satisfaction dictates nothing less.

- Clear retainers are worn only at night or half time. Hawley retainers are worn all the time for the first 6 months and then only at night
- Always put your retainers in your case!
- Take your retainers out when you eat or brush your teeth (Do not wrap them in a napkin!)
- Clean retainers thoroughly once a day with a toothbrush and toothpaste. Use warm but not hot water. Brushing retainers removes the plaque and eliminates odors. Efferdent or Retainer Brite can be used once a week to help remove tough stains but these do not take the place of brushing.
- Do not boil retainers or leave them in a hot place like your car.
- Keep them away from your pets. They love to chew on them.
- Initially, you may find it difficult to speak. Practice speaking aloud to get used to them faster.
- Retainers are breakable, so treat them with care. If retainers are lost or broken call us immediately.
- If you have any questions or concerns about your retainers, or your retainers need adjusting, call us. Do not try to adjust them yourself.
- Always bring your retainers to your appointments.
- Retainer replacement is expensive... with proper care they will last for years!
- Remove retainers when swimming.
- Keep retainers away from hot water, hot car dashboards, pockets, the washing machine, and napkins.
- Retention is for life!
